Detailed Description:
"Rumi, a divorcee at the young age of 20 was not supported by her in-laws to pursue her passion, education, which led to a depressive spiral. In order to continue supporting her passion, she ended her marriage. Savita, in contrast, comes from a family that has always supported her education. She has always felt an affinity towards young children and often took tuitions free of cost for her school juniors. Lack of opportunities was the common enemy for both. Through an NGO called Project Potential, which works with rural leaders to solve problems in their areas, Rumi and Savita started taking classes for 32 children from the village of Bhimtakia where 60-70 Santhal Adivasi families resided with no nearby access to school. In September 2020, they finally commenced with the classes using the ‘Kamaal ke Shikshak’ teaching tool developed by the Pratham/ASER Centre to understand children's current proficiency levels to group them and help them acquire foundational skills in a short period. They used a variety of creative and engaging teaching techniques such as charts, boards, listening activities, pointing to objects etc. The only obstacle they faced was low attendance. "
